Basic Troubleshooting Tips- Laptop

Below are some general troubleshooting tips for laptops that may resolve an issue before the need for a ticket.
However, if you are having issues with a broken screen or battery issues please write a ticket.

  • Try power cycling your machine (just a fancy term for turning it off and back on)
    • Try to use the recommended method to power down first
    • Windows - Power - Shutdown for laptops
    • Holding down the power button for 5-10 seconds (depends on the machine) should force it to power down otherwise
    • Allow the machine to remain off for a least 10 seconds
    • Power machine back on and see if that resolved your problem

One of the most common laptop problem comes from loose cables.

  • When a cable becomes loose, simply pushing it back in wont always realign the connectors
    • Remove the cable completely from its port before replacing

If your computer is acting slow and unresponsive look at the number of Chrome/Edge tabs that you have open.
Each tab takes a lot of your computers resources. If you have 10+ tabs open your computer will probably slow down.
